“The Lowland” was a transcontinental journey of an entourage of persons, emotions and circumstances. A dense and rich experience, which I was a part of for a week, but living a few decades of experience. The story was organically flowing and made the reader in me living in each moment of those characters enlivened, taking the breath they took and the visuals they interacted. Just to example one of my experiences during the immersed reading. The deep breath I have taken when Gouri inhaled deeply the teak-wood aroma touching the codes of decades’ of past, was one of such moments. It is powerful and exceptional quality of narration by Ms. Jhumpa Lahiri.
